In June of 2006, Andy Clarke returned to Christchurch School for Alumni Weekend for his 35th Class Reunion. This weekend visit to his alma mater was filled with reconnecting with his classmates and sharing wonderful memories of his incredible experiences both in and out of the classroom at Christchurch. Andy’s story is not unique; his return visit that Alumni Weekend was more than the rekindling of his boyhood friendships and revisiting his Christchurch experiences, it was a time of rediscovery of Christchurch, the Rappahannock River and the meaningful impact the school had on his life. This extraordinary weekend of reconnecting with his past left a lasting impression on Andy and sparked a renewed fondness for Christchurch.

Two years later in 2008, Andy was diagnosed with a terminal illness. Andy decided to rewrite his will and bequeath his entire estate to Christchurch. To honor his favorite memories of sailing on the Rappahannock River, Andy bequeathed 50% of his estate to support and maintain the Christchurch School waterfront in perpetuity and the other 50% to be used to support the good work of the school. Andy’s vision was to give back and make a difference at Christchurch, because Christchurch had made a difference in his own life. Andy’s gift has made a difference - the incredible waterfront facility you see today is a result of Andy’s vision and current and future students will enjoy his gift for years to come. Andy lived a modest life, but in the end he gave everything he had to his beloved Christchurch.
